Union Appliance and Furniture, Inc.'s building was completed in 1938
and is a contributing building to the National
Historic Register. It is an Art
Deco style commercial building with an angled wing at the left.
Distinctive details include yellow brick bands under a denticulated
concrete cornice with matching bands above and below the upper windows
and a triple band above the store front. The building contains approximately
20,000 square feet and has three floors. The first and second floors
covering 12,000 square feet are dislay space and the remaining square
footage is used for storage. The business was remoldeled in early
2000 but kept both its interior and exterior historical character.
Upon entering the from door one's vision is immediately led to an
eight foor wide staircase and opening to the second floor. Square
colums are viewed from the lower floor upward twenty five feet. Art
Deco panels frame the areas above the expansive display windows across
the front of the store.
